Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), SDS provides person-directed services and supports that promote independence, inclusion, choices, and belonging.

Founded in 1953 by a group of dedicated parents seeking greater opportunities and supports for their children, SDS has grown and evolved alongside the developmental services sector while remaining committed to helping people live meaningful lives within their communities.

Today,  SDS offers a variety of individualized services designed to support each person's unique strenghts, goals, and aspirations, including:

  •  Residential Services
  •  Supported Independent Living
  •  Community Participation Supports
  •  Respite Services
  • Life Skills Development

At SDS, we believe every person has the right to make choices, build relationships, contribute to their community, and pursue a life that is meaningful to them. Our approach reflects the principles of inclusion, citizenship, and belonging that guide Ontario's developmental services sector.

As a bilingual service provider, SDS recognizes and respects the diverse cultures, identities, languages, abilities, experiences, and perspectives that enrich our communities.  We are committed to creating welcoming, accessible, and inclusive environments where individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to participate fully in all aspects of community life.  Through equitable practices, accessible services, and person-directed supports, we strive to foster a true sense of belonging for everyone we support, employ, and engage with.

SDS is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a dedicated team of professionals who are committed to delivering high-quality services and supports.

We are committed to providing safe, accessible, respectful, and inclusive services.  SDS adheres to the requirements of Ontario Regualtion 299/10 (Quality Assurance Measures), maintains a zero-tolerance approach to abuse and neglect, and is committed to meeting the standards of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
