Direct Support Worker

As a Direct Support Worker, you play a crucial role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities by helping them achieve their personal goals, fostering independence, and promoting social inclusion. This position involves working closely with individuals to assist with daily living activities, facilitate community engagement, and implement individualized support plans. Key Responsibilities: 

Individual Support and Care

  • Provide safe, respectful supervision and support to  assigned individuals
  • Assist with personal care, hygiene, daily living  activities, and household routines
  • Support individuals in community involvement, leisure  activities, and skill development
  • Provide positive role modeling, coaching, and  counselling
  • Administer and document medications in accordance with procedures
  • Support individuals’ physical, emotional, and social  well‑being

Program and Team Participation

  • Participate in person‑centred planning and  implementation of individual support plans
  • Contribute to program development and team decision‑making
  • Maintain open communication with team members,  management, and external supports
  • Assist with training, orientation, and supervision of  students or new staff as required

Administrative and Documentation Duties

  • Maintain accurate individual records, documentation,  and reports
  • Monitor finances and assist with budgeting and purchasing as assigned
  • Attend required meetings, supervision sessions, and  training
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of  individual information

Health and Safety

  • Follow all health and safety policies, emergency procedures, and WHMIS requirements
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure safe operation of  agency vehicles
  • Respond to incidents, hazards, or emergencies  appropriately
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and home‑like living  environment

Qualifications

  • Post‑secondary diploma in Direct  Support Worker, Social Worker, Social Service Worker or related field
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities with Behavioural Support Plans
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork  skills
  • Ability to obtain/maintain First Aid, WHMIS, and  non-violent crisis prevention training certification
  • Valid G driver’s license with a good driving record;  bondable
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is an asset and may be required for designated positions
